How Do I Register?

How Do I Buy Bids?

Simply click on the 'Buy Bids' top at the top of your screen

This will take you to the 'Bids' home page where you can select the amount of 'Bid Tokens' you wish to purchase. Add the amount you want to your shopping cart and proceed to checkout

On the checkout page you will see all three payment options. Select the one you wish to use and you will be taken to the relevant page

How Do I Place Bids?

Participating in the auctions is easy. You can take part in one of two ways:

• Manually
• Using 'Bid Buddy'

To play manually, simply go to the auction page that interests you. When you are ready to play, click on the 'Place Your Bid' button. Your bid will be placed and your name will go to the top of the winner list

To play using 'Bid Buddy', go to the auction page that interests you and configure your 'Bid Buddy' to place the bids for you. For more information click on the relevant section in the help menu

No longer do you have to set yourself a target price to buy the product. Our auctions traditionally end with an ending purchase price which is far, far lower than any other auction.

Every day we feature products such as LCD Televisions, Designer Hand Bags, Top of the line Mobile Phones and more. No Matter what your looking for; chances are there is an auction running where you can 'Bid and Save'

Take a look at some of the auctions we are running now. If any of them take your fancy, why not get some Bid Tokens and join in the fun?

Unlike traditional auctions, there is no risk of an automated program 'sniping' you at the last second. When a bid comes in during the final 30 seconds, the counter is reset back up to 30 seconds - This is to give someone else the chance to bid if they're interested. If no-one else bids and the counter reaches zero, congratulations: you've won yourself a bargain!

Even if you don't win the auction, you never have to leave Nethunter empty handed. Any time after you've placed your first bid in an auction, you can choose to buy the product for a discount, getting back the cost of the bids you placed in that auction. You'll never have to pay more than the Worth Up To price for any products. The auction will continue as usual, so other bidders can battle it out.

How Can I Play?

In order to be able to get in on the fun you need to register an account with Nethunter

Simply follow the easy step-by-step process to set up your account, purchase some Bid Tokens, and that is it. You are all set up ready to bid your way to a bargain!

How Do I Change My Details?

Once you are logged in, you will see a new tab has appeared called 'My Account'. If you click on this tab it takes you to your account summary page showing you a whole host of information including which auctions you are bidding on, your bid token balance, any Bid Buddy you may have configured, and any outstanding items

You are also able to edit aspects of your account from this page. Simply click the 'Edit My Profile' link, and you will be able to update your address, position on the map, email address, and passwords.

How Much Does A Bid Cost?

In order to participate in the Live Auctions, you will need to purchase some 'Bid Tokens'.

Each bid token costs 60 cents and entitles you to place a single bid on a single auction.

Bid Tokens may be used anywhere within the Nethunter group, so they can be offset against the purchase price of an item in Shop Direct, used to pay for listings in Classifieds or for placing bids in the Live Auctions

Bid Tokens Are Available in 10, 20, 50, 100, 250, and 500 packs with bonus tokens awarded for larger purchases

Can Everyone Be A Winner?

While every auction has to have a winner, this does not mean you have to lose out -- you never have to leave Nethunter empty handed.

Any time after you've placed your first bid in an auction, you can choose to buy the product for a discount, getting back the cost of the bids you placed in that auction. You'll never have to pay more than the Worth Up To price for any products.

The auction will continue as usual, so other bidders can battle it out.

How Do I Bid on Nethunter?

How Does Bid Buddy Work?

'Bid Buddy' is your own personal automated bidding system. It bids for you when you haven't got the time to follow a live auction. Simply choose the maximum number of bids that you want Bid Buddy to use and when you would like Bid Buddy to place the bids.

• Bid at any time - This will keep your name at the top of the winners list until all Bid Buddy has reached your maximum bid allowance
  
  
• Bid during the last 30 seconds only - This will only bid during the last 30 seconds of the auction, giving you greater control over your bid usage

How does Bid Buddy know when to bid?

If there is just one Bid Buddy booked to bid in an auction, the bids will be placed automatically within the timescale you specified.

If two or more users have setup a Bid Buddy for an auction, each Bid Buddy will take its turn in rotation, this ensures that your bid tokens are not used up in one fell swoop and that your bids are placed to ensure maximum probability of winning.

Hint:

• You can increase or cancel your Bid Buddy at any time.
• There is no maximum of bids on the Bid Buddy, as long as you have bid tokens in your account.
• Bid Buddy will not allow you to exceed the number of bid tokens in your account. This allows you to safely bid on other auctions without worrying about ending with a negative bid token balance.
• In the event your account balance is less than the amount your Bid Buddy is setup to utilise, your Bid Buddy will cease bidding on your behalf when your account reaches zero.
• We recommend using Bid Buddy to bid during the last 30 seconds of the auction. This gives you the most control over how your bids are placed. And gives you a higher probability of winning the auction.

Why did the auction end before all my Bid Buddy bids were placed?

Bid Buddy will not place bids against itself. If you are the highest bidder when the auction ends, all unused Bid Tokens are automatically returned to your account.

Advice On Bidding

There are many different approaches people can take to try and increase their likelihood of winning. There is no 'sure-fire' winning strategy, but here are a few tips to help you get started, as well as a few of the traps that novice bidders sometimes fall into.

• Place your bid in the last 30 seconds of the auction.
• It is not advisable to wait until the last second before placing your bid. If you run into a problem you will likely not have time to resolve it before the auction ends. And, as the timer is reset when a bid comes in, there is no benefit to you to do this.
• Use your bids wisely, determine which auction you want to be part of and stay focused upon that one. Bear in mind that certain auctions are likely to attract far more interest than others.
• Use Bid Buddy to your advantage. This is a very powerful tool which if used correctly can ensure your place at the top. You can still bid manually when Bid Buddy is set up, and it will not bid against you. This way, you can ensure that no matter what problems you may experience Bid Buddy is backing you up so your bid goes in.
• Turn someone's Bid Buddy against them - some people will use a Bid Buddy because they cannot be at their computer to watch the auctions. It is easy to fly in and win with a quick single bid if your rival has gone through all their allocated bids
• Watch how everyone else is bidding - you can see the details of the last twenty bids placed, which can help you work out people's bidding styles and allow you to come up with a strategy to beat them.
• Use the Shout box, where you can talk to different bidders and Nethunter Support, you can ask questions and gauge how serious your competition is. It is also useful for seeing whom may be using a Bid Buddy.
• Check out the latest winners - this will let you know the likely interest in the auction you are in and perhaps provide a rough guide to what some past auctions have gone for.
• Watch the auction end time - if it ends at 5pm you will know that quite a few people will be driving home from work at this point. Similarly if it ends at 7pm people might be having their dinner, in which case there will be fewer bidders online, making it easier for you to snag a bargain

In the end it comes down to timing and perseverance. Find the item you want to win, get your tokens ready and stick with it.

Where Can I See Who Is Bidding Against Me?

Each 'Auction' has its own page. On this page the list of the last twenty bids placed is shown at the top right of the page.

I Placed a Bid, But I'm Not The Highest Bidder. Why?

When you place a bid, your username goes to the top of the winners list, however, you can be outbid very quickly; especially in the more popular auctions. If you go to the page of the auction you are participating in, you can see the list of the last 20 bids placed along with the bidders username. You will see your name in that list along with the time your bid was placed.

Can I Bid On An Upcoming Auction?

Until an auctions countdown timer has begun it is not possible to place any bids. Check out the 'Advice on Bidding' section for hints on how to maximise your bids for the highest probability of winning.

I've Just Won An Auction, What Now?

You have won your auction, so now what do you do?

Firstly, you will see in your My Account Summary box that you have a pending item that you requires your attention. If you click on this link, or go straight to your account, you will be able to choose from the payment methods available.

Once we have received the payment, your official Nethunter Winners Certificate is sent to your email. Then someone from Nethunter Support will contact you to arrange a suitable delivery time. Our standard delivery schedule is 3-5 working days.

That is it, sit back and wait, and you will soon have your winning item in your hands

Can I Redeem My Remaining Tokens?

If you choose to, you can redeem any remaining Bid Tokens you have left against the purchase price of the item you have just won.

Simply select this option during the checkout and payment process and we will automatically deduct the tokens from your account and reduce the outstanding balance respectively

How Many Auctions Can I Win?

There is no limit on the total amount of auctions you can win, but no single user is permitted to win more than eight auctions per month. It is totally down to you how many you decide to participate in.

When Does An Auction End?

Each auction has a countdown timer, when this timer reaches zero, whoever is the top bidder at that time is the winner. However, to give everyone a fair chance of winning, the timer is reset to the auction seconds increment each time a bid comes in within the specified reset time of an auction. This is to give everyone a chance to bid if they wish to.

If multiple bids are received within the specified reset time of an auction, the timer is reset to 3 minutes to give everyone the opportunity to top up on bids etc. The actual end of the auction is determined by the bidders. If no bids are received in the specified reset time then when the timer runs out the auction is over.

What's The Difference Between The Auction End Price And Our Retail Price?

Auction end price

This is the end price of the auction. This is the price you pay for the item.

Our Retail Price

This is meant as a market indicator of the high street value of the item. It has no relevance to what you pay as the winning bidder.

What Should I Do If The Item I Won Is Faulty?

Customer satisfaction is vitally important to us at Nethunter.

If in the unlikely event you have received a faulty or damaged product, you should first contact Nethunter Support via the contact form or direct line telephone number listed on the site. Support will assist you in every way to rectify this problem.

DO NOT Send a product back to Nethunter without first contacting Nethunter support. We cannot be responsible for any products returned to us without our prior knowledge

Do You Offer A Standard Guarantee On Products Auctioned?

All products supplied by Nethunter carry a full manufacturers, EU warranty.

Can I Return An Item I Have Won?

We understand that circumstances can arise where you no longer want the item you have won. You will need to contact Nethunter Support within 14 days of the auction end, who will advise you the best way to rectify the problem.

How Do I Subscribe / Unsubscribe From Your Newsletter?

There are 2 methods to Subscribe / Unsubscribe to the newsletter:

• In 'My Account', click the 'Edit My Profile' Link, you will see a tick box for the newsletter. Tick it to subscribe.
• If you are subscribed and wish to unsubscribe, there is an unsubscribe link at the top of every newsletter.

Can I Change My Username?

In order to prevent abuse and spam it is not possible to change your username once your account has been created.

Additionally, Nethunter reserves the right to delete or suspend any account which is deemed to have an inappropriate or offensive usernames

For your security, there is not an option in the 'My Account' page to delete your profile. Where Do I Find My Customer ID?

How Long Are My Free Bids Valid For?

Free bids come in two forms

• Bonus Bids from a Bid Purchase - These never expire
• Free Bids from a Promotion - These are valid for 30 days from award date

Why Hasn't My Bid Been Registered On An Auction?

On rare occurrences, users tell us that even though they bid before the countdown ended, their bids did not get placed and the auction ends. In these instances, the most likely explanation is so-called "Internet lag times". These are time-delays in the transfer of data between your PC and our servers. Mostly those delays (lags) occur because single parts of the internet connection are overloaded, or due to unreliable internet connections

This, unfortunately, is a general problem with your internet connection.

There are a few ways of helping minimize this problem:

• While bidding on Nethunter do not download large data such as video or audio files from the internet.
• Don't send emails with large attachments while bidding on Nethunter.
• Make sure that no other users such as family members, etc. are using the internet while you are bidding.
• Do not wait for the last second to place your bid.
• Use your Bid Buddy to ensure that the bids are placed

How Do I Activate Cookies?

To enable cookies, please follow the instructions below for the internet browser version you are using.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0+

1. Select Tools from the pull-down menu in your browser.
2. Select Internet Options. The Internet Options dialog will appear.
3. Select the Privacy tab. Under Settings, click Advanced.
4. Check Override automatic cookie handling under Cookies section in Advanced Privacy Settings window.
5. Under First-party Cookies, select Accept. Under Third-party Cookies, select Accept. Check Always allow session cookies.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0+

1. Go to the "Tools" menu.
2. Select "Options".
3. Select the Privacy tab.
4. Make sure that the Accept cookies from sites under Cookies is ticked (the default setting).

How Do I Activate Javascript?

To activate Javascript:

Internet Explorer (7.0)

1. Select Tools > Internet Options.
2. Click on the Security tab.
3. Click the Custom Level button.
4. Scroll down to the Scripting section.
5. Select Enable for Active Scripting and Scripting of Java Applets.
6. Click OK.
7. Select YES if a box appears to confirm.
8. Click OK. Close window.
9. Reload page.

Mozilla Firefox (3.x)

1. Open Firefox.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
3. Click Content in the Options list.
4. Under the Content section, check the box next to Enable JavaScript.
5. Click the Advanced button to open the Advanced JavaScript Options box.
6. Check the appropriate boxes under Allow scripts to.
7. Click OK.
8. Click OK.

What Happens To The Auctions During System Downtime?

Downtime, or outage, is an occasional and unforeseeable problem with the internet, and means that bids cannot be placed during this short period when we are offline. If we experience downtime at any point, we automatically add ten minutes on to the auction end time, so that our bidders are not left at a disadvantage. It is impossible to place any bids whilst the system is experiencing downtime, so any bids attempted during this period will not be debited from your account. If this situation does occur, we advise you to refresh your screen regularly, either by pressing F5 or the refresh button on your browser.

I'm Using An Old Browser, Why Can't I Bid?

Nethunter is a technically advanced website that makes use of the latest methods to provide live, bid by bid information to your browser.

To make sure our members get the very most out of their experience on Nethunter we took the decision to block older browser which are incompatible with modern design techniques. There are actually very few blocked browsers of which Internet Explorer 6 is by far the most commonly used.

There's a whole host of reasons to upgrade your browser beyond using Nethunter. The latest browser versions allow you to view modern websites as they were meant to be seen, they are quicker, more secure and are regularly updated with new features.

You don't even have to pay to upgrade We suggest upgrading to the latest version of Internet Explorer or searching online for any of the following FREE browsers for more information about what they offer: Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera and Safari. 

Each offer slightly different features which may or may not suit you but they are all capable of running the most modern websites such as Nethunter.

The Timer Jumps. Why?

In order to ensure the accuracy of the countdown timer, Nethunter constantly checks the time on your PC with the time on the server. If you have any internet lag this is noted and the clock is adjusted accordingly. This is why you may see the clock 'lag' for a second or jump 2 seconds. Due to this, Nethunter advises that you do not wait for the closing seconds of the auction before placing your bids.

I Cannot See The Auctions, I only Get A Loading Auctions Page. Why?

Nethunter uses Javascript in order to display the auctions and to ensure the timer is accurate. Unfortunately, Javascript requires a good internet connection. If you have a slow connection speed then you will not see the auctions, only the loading page. You have a couple of options that may help you see the auctions

• Make sure you have no downloads going in the background
• Make sure you do not have any high bandwidth sites open such as Youtube
• Test your internet connection with http://www.speedtest.net.
  Nethunter recommends at least a 1Mbps broadband connection speed
• Refresh your browser by pressing the CTRL key and F5 at the same time
• Upgrade your internet connection with your provider

What Are Fake / Phishing Emails?

Unscrupulous internet users often create elaborate looking emails to send out that mimic a company's website. This is done intentionally in an attempt to steal important use information such as usernames, passwords and credit card information. As Nethunter has never and will never hold Credit card information of its visitors, the likelihood of a phishing campaign is low. However, it is important that our visitors are aware that these scams exist and how to deal with them effectively if they are received.

How Do I Know If An Email Was Sent By Nethunter Or Not?

All support emails sent by Nethunter will be from the support@nethunter.net email account. There are no variations to this. If you see an email address that is not this, you should assume that the email is fake and report it to Nethunter Support immediately.

Additionally, all emails sent by Nethunter Support will include your full name, not just your username, as this information is not available publically on the site

What Are The Fees For A Listing?

It is important to us at Nethunter that you find the classified site easy to use and informative. That is why we have developed it in such a way that it is easy to place or search for a listing.

To make things even easier we have only two pricing structures.

1. For all standard items there is no listing fee at all. You only pay a completion fee of just 7.5% of the end price of the item when the auction has ended. This way you only have to pay when your item has been sold. Also the fee is capped to a maximum of 50 Euros per listing.
2. For larger, more expensive items such as automobiles, properties, boats and other high value items there is an upfront flat listing fee based on the value

• €10 per week for values up to €10,000.00
• €15 per week for values from €10,000.00-€30,000.00
• €20 per week for values over €30,000.00

Please be aware that any product deemed to be offensive or illegal will not be approved for publishing on the site.

I Won An Auction But Don't Want It

1. Contact your buyer. Like everyone, buyers can have emergencies or computer problems. The buyer may not be able to respond to you right away. If the buyer doesn't respond to your email, you may want to request their contact information and give them a call.

2. Send a payment reminder. Send your winning buyer a friendly payment reminder between 3 and 30 days after the listing closes.

There are several reasons why an account may be suspended:

• Serious violations of Nethunter's Rules and Policies

• Non-payment of fees (often resolved by updating your credit card or debit card information)

• Aggressive or abusive behavior to other members or staff

If your account is suspended, we'll send a notification to your email account. The notification includes the reason for your account suspension and the steps you can take to resolve the suspension.

Can I Cancel My Bid?

As a general rule, you can't retract or cancel a bid. When you place a bid, you agree to pay for the item if you're the winning bidder.

However, honest mistakes sometimes occur. You can cancel a bid if you have a valid reason for doing so as defined below and only if the auction has more than 12 hours to go.

Valid reasons for retracting a bid include:

• You accidentally entered the wrong bid amount due to a typographical error.

• The item's description changed significantly after you entered your last bid.

Changing your mind is not a valid reason for retracting a bid. Before bidding, be sure to carefully review the listing.

CAPTCHA

A CAPTCHA is a program that can tell whether its user is a human or a computer. You've probably seen them — colorful images with distorted text at the bottom of Web registration forms. CAPTCHAs are used by many websites to prevent abuse from "bots," or automated programs usually written to generate spam. No computer program can read distorted text as well as humans can, so bots cannot navigate sites protected by CAPTCHAs.

About 200 million CAPTCHAs are solved by humans around the world every day. In each case, roughly ten seconds of human time are being spent. Individually, that's not a lot of time, but in aggregate these little puzzles consume more than 150,000 hours of work each day. What if we could make positive use of this human effort? reCAPTCHA does exactly that by channeling the effort spent solving CAPTCHAs online into "reading" books.

To archive human knowledge and to make information more accessible to the world, multiple projects are currently digitizing physical books that were written before the computer age. The book pages are being photographically scanned, and then transformed into text using "Optical Character Recognition" (OCR). The transformation into text is useful because scanning a book produces images, which are difficult to store on small devices, expensive to download, and cannot be searched. The problem is that OCR is not perfect.

reCAPTCHA improves the process of digitizing books by sending words that cannot be read by computers to the Web in the form of CAPTCHAs for humans to decipher. More specifically, each word that cannot be read correctly by OCR is placed on an image and used as a CAPTCHA. This is possible because most OCR programs alert you when a word cannot be read correctly.

But if a computer can't read such a CAPTCHA, how does the system know the correct answer to the puzzle? Here's how: Each new word that cannot be read correctly by OCR is given to a user in conjunction with another word for which the answer is already known. The user is then asked to read both words. If they solve the one for which the answer is known, the system assumes their answer is correct for the new one. The system then gives the new image to a number of other people to determine, with higher confidence, whether the original answer was correct.

• There will be a preset number of participants allowed.
• Participation will cost a fixed amount, which gives you the right to join in the PickPocket Auction and a fixed number of PickPocket Auction Bids.
• PickPocket bids are only valid during the life of the particular PickPocket Auction and expire upon its end.
• PickPocket bids are not transferrable or convertible, are not redeemable against Nethunter Store purchases, and cannot be banked for future use.
• All of the PickPocket Auctions will start with a €0.00 price.
• The price of a PickPocket Auction item will increase by a fixed amount each time a bid is placed.
• Each participant receives an identical fixed amount of bids at the start of the Pick Pocket Auction.
• PickPocket Auctions will continue until a certain percentage of the overall bid pool is used, at which point the auction ends.
• PickPocket Auctions require people to actively participate to stay in the game, each bidder will have their own personal bidding countdown clock.
• If a member's personal countdown clock reaches zero, all remaining bids will be automatically spent and added to the total.
• If a PickPocket Auction exceeds 30 minutes in length, it will go into Sudden Death and the timers will shorten.
  
• The winner of a PickPocket Auction will have the exclusive right to purchase the item at the ending price.

How Does a PickPocket Auction Work?

• In order to participate in a PickPocket Auction you must preregister and purchase a wallet
• Each member is only permitted to register once per PickPocket Auction
• Each member is only permitted to purchase one Bid Wallet per PickPocket Auction
• A few minutes before a given PickPocket Auction is scheduled to commence, registration will close to new participants and the pre-auction phase will start
• Once a PickPocket Auction enters the pre-auction phase, the price increment will be calculated and the specifics for that PickPocket Auction will be known and published
• A PickPocket Auction continues until a predetermined percentage of the overall quantity of bids for that PickPocket Auction have been spent
• Once the predetermined percentage of the overall quantity of bids for a PickPocket Auction have been spent, the auction will end, and the person who was last to bid will win
• Once a member has used up all of their PickPocket bids in a given PickPocket Auction, they cannot purchase more PickPocket bids or another wallet for that PickPocket Auction
• In order to stay active in a PickPocket Auction, a participant must continue to actively bid before their personal bid timer reaches zero
• Each time a member places a bid in a PickPocket Auction, their personal bid timer will be reset to the allotted maximum time between bids
• If a member does not bid within the allotted maximum time between bids, all remaining PickPocket Bids for that member will be spent and added to the total
• If a member does not bid within the allotted maximum time between bids and their bids are automatically spent, they can still win if this triggers the predetermined percentage threshold
• If a PickPocket Auction exceeds 30 minutes in length, it will go into Sudden Death and the timer period will shorten.
• PickPocket Auction Bids which are unused will expire upon the end of the PickPocket Auction, bids cannot be saved or retained for a future PickPocket Auction, or otherwise converted for use elsewhere within the Nethunter family of sites.
